A Prayer of Confession

283 words·2m read
Father, we come before you this morning,
Not with pride as though we deserve anything,
We come with humility to confess our sins
Knowing with confidence that you, O Lord, are faithful.
Our sins are many, but indeed, your mercy is more.
In light of this, we pray, asking for your forgiveness.

We confess that we often live contrary to the truth of your calling
You have called and chosen us to be your holy city, a people, a body and a church
Purchased not by our good works but by grace found in Christ's blood
Yet we chose to identify ourselves with our works, wealth and worldly status.
Oh, Father, forgive us.

We confess that we are quick to give in to anger when things go against our desires,
You have called us to live self-controlled and upright lives
Yet, we often forget to live in the light of eternity
Many of us ignore our brothers and sisters within this body
We would rather be served than serve.
We often choose our comfort over encouraging and building one another up.
Oh, Father, forgive us.

We confess that we spend more time focusing on what we can achieve with our strengths.
Rather than spending time in prayer for others and ourselves
We forget that you, O Lord alone, are our confidence.
The week is busy, and schedules are tight,
This has often been an excuse for us not to spend time in your word,
Our lives sometimes do not differ from those in the world,
Oh, Father, forgive us.

Our sins are many, but indeed, your mercy is more.
In light of this, we pray, asking for your forgiveness in Jesus' name.
Amen.
