The Rock of Salvation

Broad and wide:
The path looks sure
As the sons of men run 'ward this gate.
It started with a little hunch
But the path was an unending one.
The chase looks real,
The kill looks compelling,
They seem to have a course,
But a bottomless pit would be their fall!

Through the path they walk:
In their strength they trust,
Their princes and chariots were their hope,
They compete to achieve greater dust,
Dust upon dust they think it's their pleasure,
The foundation their joy rest upon,
Peril shall soon be their call!

Enchanted and charmed:
Their path becomes their curse.
They console themselves with the attraction of vain words;
"Your best life is now and you can take it all"
They run and endless mile
Through the forest of I want more,
What is their life after all?
A mist, dust and vapour!

Who shall tell these ones?
Who would show them the Rock?
The same stone they've rejected
Has become the head cornerstone—
A stumbling block for the pride
A refuge for the meek,
The sure foundation
Upon which the house of salvation stands!
