Vicissitude

155 words·1m read
(A change or variation occurring in the course of something; alternating change)

The beginning was the end we often forget.
The feeble appearance that grew to be strong;
Will one day return to its frailty.
The gentle and innocent smile that grew boorish over time;
Will one day return to its gentility.
The cooing of unknown words that grew into haranguing;
Will one day return to its tranquillity.
The careful steps that grew into a faux pas;
Will one day return to modesty.
The dainty being that grew into a Brobdingnagian;
Will return sooner or later to fragility.
The beginning shall return;
Everything in-between is ephemeral.
The destitute who over time grew to become Croesus;
Will soon return to the state of poverty.
In all your ways, never forget the end;
The beginning already gave the cue,
Take the hint, live, but never forget;
As you came, so shall you go.
