What’s next?

128 words·1m read
You went to school,
Completed degrees worth completing,
You climbed the highest peak in your career,
Surrounded yourself with treasures acquired
From your hard-earned labour,
Then you sit and ponder, What’s next?

You fell in love and were loved,
Your offspring flourished before your eyes,
Lo and behold;
Grey has become your new black, brown, blonde or red,
Wrinkles have become your new smooth and fresh,
Weakness has become your new strength and health,
As you lie in bed, you begin to reminisce,
From reminiscing to deep wondering,
And you asked; what’s next?

Shut behind the doors of darkness,
Earth became your new blanket,
You’re out of the land of the living,
Gone in a single blink,
Then it’s my turn to ask; What’s next?
